Baker, 82, of Ronald Township passed away Aug. 28, 2001 at Crystal Springs Home of Hope in Grand Rapids. He was born the son of John and Sabie (Dawson) Baker on Feb. 22, 1919 in Lowell. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married the former Pearl Bowen on Oct. 7, 1939. She preceded him in death on May 5, 1996. Lyle was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ionia since 1945. He was a farmer since 1945. He also was a painter and white washer of dairy barns since 1950. Lyle worked at Bell Telephone Co. for 15 years. Surviving are three sons, Richard L. (Jessie) Baker of Ionia, Samuel C. Baker of Houghton Lake and Marvin J. (Nancy) Baker of Leslie; one daughter, Susan (John) Sutherland of California; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Keith (Pat) Baker of Portland. Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl; brother, Vern; and sister, Dorthea Overholt. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ionia with Pastor Robert Joseph and Pastor Carl Tsatalabidis officiating. The organist will be Anna Jean Opicka. Interment in Easton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday at the Rich Street Chapel of Cook Funeral Home in Ionia.
