Baker, 75 of 509 Riverside drive, Portland, died Monday evening at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Baker had been active in many civic and church organizations. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic church and the Altar society of which she was president 20 years. For 18 years she served as secretary of Portland Community Chest, and was recording secretary for Maccabees 33 years. In the past year she was appointed a member of the state executive board of United Foundation fund. During World War II, she received a citation as head of the salvage committee for Ionia county from President Harry S. Truman. She was past president of Women’s Reserve Corps and Blue Star Mothers club, a member of the Dorcas society, and a charter member of the women’s auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving besides her husband, Arthur, to whom she was married 54 years, are four daughters, Mrs. Marie Meitler, Mrs. Marion Loughran and Mrs. Ann Berkshire of Portland, and Mrs. Betty Chaney, of Hamilton, Ont.; two sons, Arthur Baker, Jr., of Portland, and Robert Baker of Lansing; 13 grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Louis Vivian of Ypsilanti, Mrs. Jennie Hasbrouck of Jackson, Mrs. George Wedemeyer and Mrs. Carl Aldrich of Ann Arbor, and Mrs. Marguerite Boyer of Detroit; and one brother, Anthony Longobardi of Ann Arbor. Rosary will be recited Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at Neller funeral home in Portland. Funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Louis Flohe officiating. Burial will be at Portland cemetery.
