Clayton was born on April 22, 1938, the son of Clayton Charles Sr. and Emily Baker. He grew up on his father’s farm in Smyrna, Michigan. Clayton attended Belding schools, graduating with the Class of 1956. He also graduated from Acme School of Die Design and Engineering in Grand Rapids, Michigan. On June 6, 1959 Clayton married Ann L. Stockton of Belding. They were blessed with two sons; David in 1962 and Eric in 1964. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; Emily and Clayton Baker Sr. of Smyrna, brothers; William Aberhardt, Louis Aberhardt and Robert Aberhardt, his sisters; Henrietta Riechert, Charlotte Witham, Helen Baker Lockwood and Virginia Dunn. Clayton is loved and survived by his wife; Ann L. Baker of Belding, sons; David and Becky Baker of Belding and Eric and Patti Baker of Spring Hill, FL, grandchildren; Chasity Lewis, Chance Jones, Courtney and MatthewStephens, Connor and Savanah Baker, Kiersten Baker and Tyler Willison all of Belding, Andrew and Sarah Baker of Ft. Hood, Texas and Amanda Baker of Spring Hill, FL, great grandchildren; Alec Lafler and Jaden Lafler, Ty Lewis and Quentin Lewis, Clayton Baker, Saralyn Baker and Juliette Baker all of Belding, Lilith Baker of Ft. Hood, Texas and Ella May Stephens of Belding, sisters; Dorothy Gray of Greenville and Betty and Marion Galloway of Belding, brothers and sisters by marriage; James and Marjorie Stockton of Belding, Lois Stockton and Philip Ramsey of Elwell, David and Lois Henry of Belding, Jake and Linda Stockton of Vestaburg, Robert Gesselman of Crystal, Bill Gesselman of Carson City and Mary Aberhardt of Ypsilanti and many nieces and nephews. Clayton worked for Jordan Mfg Co in Belding, Lescoa in Grand Rapids, Northwest Tool and Die in Grand Rapids and retiring from Jordan Mfg Co. in April 1999 where he returned in 1985. He was also employed as a part time security guard at Electrolux in Greenville and Meuller Brass in Belding. He loved Bible Study and music. He was born with rhythm and music in his soul. He sang and played guitar in church services and at home. He could sing songs from the 1940’s through current time from memory and he could sing the old commercials at the drop of the hat. He played through his 61st year on the church league softball and bowling. In earlier years he enjoyed fishing and small game hunting often inviting his young brother-in-law Dave Henry along. He earned his private pilot’s license and enjoyed sharing his love of flying with his friends. He became a teenager every Friday evening during the glorious years of BHS football. He loved his children, grandchildren and his great grandchildren. Clayton was kind and courteous to everyone and a faithful man. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Smyrna Bible Church with Pastors Darwyn Hassert and Mike Simmons officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Interment will be later in the spring in Smyrna Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Smyrna Bible Church Building Fund, Belding B Foundation or Belding Youth Baseball.
