Baker, 64, of Lake Odessa, died Tuesday, at Pennock Hospital in Hastings. He was born on April 27, 1924, in Grand Ledge, the son of Robert and Thyra King Baker. He was a graduate of Grand Ledge High School in 1942 and served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946. Baker married Fern Campbell in 1946 and was an employee of the State of Michigan for over 20 years as a weighmaster, until he retired in 1983. He was a member of the American Harness Racing Association. Baker is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Robert (Sue) Brooks of Lake Odessa; Mrs. Bradley (Bonnie) Cornellius of Lansing; and Nancy Baker of Lebanon, Ill.; and one son, Michael Baker of Cheyenne, Wyo. Also surviving him are four grandchildren and one sister, Nedra Cunnington of Marshall. Two brothers, Kenneth and LaVerne, and one sister, Marilyn, preceded him in death. Funeral services were Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. The Rev. George Speas officiated. Burial was in the Eagle cemetery. The family was at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lake Odessa Ambulance Service.
