Pearl A. Baker, 76, of Ionia died Sunday, May 5, 1996 at her home.  She was born
March 14, 1920 in Keene Township, the daughter of Charles and Lucie (Richmond)
Bowen.  She graduated from Lowell High School in 1938 and graduated as an L.P.N.
from Grand Rapids Junior College in 1966.

She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church where she was extremely
active.  She was the Home Missionary Secretary for 20 years and was involved in
most all other church activities.  She worked for Dr. Darrel Opicka’s office,
Ionia Manor and local hospitals.  She was active in gardening, sewing, crafts
and painting.  She married Lyle H. Baker, Oct. 7, 1939 in Fowlerville and they
spent 15 winters in Belleview, Fla.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lyle H. Baker, three sons, Richard
L. (Jessie) Baker, of Ionia, Samuel C. Baker, of Laingsburg and Marvin J.
(Nancy) Baker of Leslie; daughter Susan (John) Sutherland, of San Jose, Calif.;
11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Evelyn Hitchcock, of
Ionia and Ella Cordtz, of Lansing.  She was preceded in death by one brother,
Fred. C. Bowen.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ionia Seventh Day Adventist
Church with Pastor James Micheff officiating.  Interment will be in Easton
Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the Cook Funeral Home today from 2 p.m. to 4
p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to the
Seventh Day Adventist Church Memorial Fund.  Envelopes are available at the Cook
Funeral Home.
