H. Baker of Muir was killed in a collision on the G.R.&I Railroad Tuesday afternoon. He was working on a “whitewash” train and was sitting on the flat car back of the engine when the crash came. They were proceeding to Cadillac under order to protect their train after 5:15. A wrecking crew was on their way to Morley under order to protect their train until 5:15. The trains met on a sharp curve and Charles Wood, the companion of Mr. Baker, was immediately killed, while Mr. Baker died a short time after being taken to Cadillac. The engineer of the whitewash train says the collision occurred at 5:14, while the other engineer puts it at 5:16, each thus placing the responsibility on the other. The remains of Mr. Baker were brought to Muir last night. One of the daughters of Mr. Baker was a graduate of the Muir school for 1906 and commencement exercises were in progress when word came of the death of her father and the occasion was turned from a gay one into one of the deepest sadness.
