Baker, 79, passed away at his farm home southwest of town Saturday morning, May 18, following a brief illness. He was born in Henry county, Ohio, February 3, 1861, and was a son of Calvin and Marilla Baker, who moved to Ionia county, Michigan, when William was three years old. He was married in 1882 to Mary Ellen Hood and they made their home in Boston township where they have lived all these 49 years and endeared themselves to neighbors and friends. Two sons were born to them and survive with their mother. Mr. Baker taught school for several years but the farming industry was his life work. He was not a member of the church but was a steady worker for its interests and sang in the M.E. church choir for many years. Surviving are his widow, Mary; two sons, George of Remus, and Theodore of Sault Ste. Marie; two grandchildren, one nephew and three nieces. Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock. Rev. Frank Loomis officiated and burial was made in South Boston cemetery.
