Baker, 81, of Ionia, formerly of Saranac, passed away Monday, November 8, 2004. She was born on Sept. 21, 1923 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Earl and Hazel (Hatherley) Peck. Mrs. Baker graduated from Lowell High School in 1942, and attended college for one year, in 1962. She married Cleo Baker on February 28, 1946 in Lowell. Ilene was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ionia. She was a LPN Nurse at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital from 1967 until 1972, when she started operating a foster care home in Saranac, until 1981. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Violet Miller, Sandra Bogaski, and Hazel Frazier. Surviving are her husband, Cleo Baker of Ionia; son, Kenneth Baker of Saranac; sister, Evelyn Oom of Grand Rapids. The memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Carl Tsatalabidis, pastor, at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2004 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Ionia. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Ionia. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Ionia.
