His family had been expecting his death for several hours, though marveling at his great vitality. Mr. Balderson had not been in good health since the war, having a frequently recurring complaint which rendered him unfit for hard work. He stood well with his neighbors and townsmen and was an excellent citizen. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Fred W., H.K., John C. and Wm. H. Balderson, of Portland, Edward Balderson, Grand Ledge. The daughters are Mrs. Frank Barnes and Miss Sarah Balderson, both of Portland. His brother, John, resides in Fenwick and a sister, Mrs. Sarah Perry, lives in Saginaw. Mr. Balderson was born in Leistershire, England, April 2, 1829 and crossed the ocean in 1847, locating in Loraine county, Ohio. In Avon, Ohio, he married Mary Ann Crisp. Serving in the war he returned to Ohio and then came to Portland. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church Friday afternoon, Rev. John H. Stewart, of the Baptist church, officiating. Mrs. Balderson is a member of the Baptist church, but on account of the repairs now being made there, the Methodist church was used. Burial in Portland cemetery.
