The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, March 23, 1957
John C. Balderson, 82, of route two Portland, well known resident of Ionia 
county, died Friday about noon, at his home.  He had been a justice of peace 
in Portland township for about 50 years and was active in the Iona county 
Republican party.  Mr. Balderson was also a member of the Hamlin school board 
for a number of years.  

Born in Portland township, October 21, 1875, he resided in the area all his 
life and died just a few miles from his birth place.  Surviving are one son, 
Justin C. Balderson of Portland, two grandchildren, three great grandchildren; 
two sisters, Mrs. Mary Barnes of Bethesda, Md., and Miss Sara Balderson of 
Grand Rapids, and one brother, Edward Balderson of Eagle.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Neller 
funeral home in Portland.  The Rev. Lowell McCarty will officiate and 
interment will be in the Portland cemetery.
