He was born in Herkiner, N.Y., Nov. 3, 1803, and removed to Ionia in 1844, coming by way of Jackson and from that place in a boat down Grand river. After settling in Ionia he devoted himself alternately to merchantile and agricultural pursuits. He was always a quiet, contented and respected citizen, noted for the even tenor of his way. He has gone, as the leaf falls, at the end of his days, full of years, gathered to his fathers in his old age, leaving to his family and friends only pleasant memories of him in life while it lasted."
