Ionia Sentinel Standard, 23 Sep 1980

J. Todd Bales, 9, of Chireno, Texas, whose parents are former Ionia residents,
died Sept. 5 in Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.  He had been ill with leukemia
since July 1979 and spent a great deal of the past year in the M D Anderson
Cancer Research Center, Houston.  He was born June 23, 1971, in Cocoa, Fla., the
son of Richard and Dorothy (Rogers) Bales.

He is survived by his parents; a sister, Marcelle, at home; two brothers, W.
Scott, a student at Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., and Richard A., at
home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Rogers of South Bend, Ind., and
a paternal grandmother, Mrs. Bliss L. Bales of Elkhart, Ind.

Services were held Sept. 8 in St. Augustine, Texas.  Memorial contributions may
be made to the M D Anderson Cancer Research Center, Pediatrics Research. 
Memorials of blood may be made for the children in St. Jude’s Hospital.
