The parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Ball, of Danby township, had been so notified by war department telegram Friday, October 20. The news came as confirmation of their worst fears. They had heard nothing from him since Aug. 17 when they received their last letter. Pfc. Ball, previously employed at a Grand Ledge factory and at Ypsilanti-Reed factory, Ionia, entered the army in March, 1943. He was transferred overseas to England in October, 1943, and had remained there until this July when his unit was dispatched to France. His maternal grandmother, Mrs. Thomas Blackman, and several relatives reside in Epsom, in Surrey, 14 miles from London, England, but he was unable to visit them before being shipped out for action. He was born in Detroit, October 13, 1924, and had lived in Danby since he was seven. He attended Halliday school and Portland high school. Surviving are his parents and one brother, Harold, at home, and his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. William Roseveare, Sebewa township.
