Taught School at Cooks Corners in Early Days – Prominent in Politics. William Ball of Hamburg, the well known Republican, and once acting lieutenant governor of the state, died at his home at Hamburg, Mich., August 28th. Mr. Ball has been a resident of Michigan for 66 years. He was a member of the house of representatives and was one speaker protem of the Michigan senate. Upon the death of the lieutenant governor he acted in that capacity to the end of the term. He was for many years actively identified with the Michigan State fair. Mr. Ball was a school teacher in his younger days and is well known in this vicinity by the old inhabitants, he taught several terms of school in the old school house at Cook’s Corners. A few years ago he conducted a farmers institute for this county in the Opera House here and made a happy allusion to that time.
