Ionia Sentinel Standard  Feb 4, 2011

Violet Balog, 93, formerly of Grand Ledge, died Jan. 24, 2011 at the Laurels of 
Kent in Lowell. She was born on Jan. 19, 1918 in Saskatchewan, Canada to Leo 
and Julia Hogan.

She married Joseph Balog on Aug. 31, 1940 in Port Huron. They were married 43 
years before he preceded her in death in 1983. In their early years together, 
they owned a retail grocery store and later purchased a resort on Lake Huron 
that became know as, “Balogs” White Caps”.

After the passing of her beloved Joe, she moved to Grand Ledge to be close to 
her nephew, Jerry Howe, and his family.
