He Died at 8:10 O'clock, at his Home, This Morning. Most of the friends of ex-Alderman Frank Banhagel will be surprised to learn that he died at 8:10 yesterday morning at his home on State street, of quick consumption. Mr. Banhagel had been ill for the past three months, having taken to his bed on Dec. 24, 1899. He was 49 years of age, and was born in Germany. He came to Ionia 19 years ago and has been one of the leading contractors of this part of the state. The Liverton block, two of the south side asylums, and other Ionia buildings are monuments to his energy. At the time of his death he had the contract for the Congregational church being built at St. Johns. Mr. Banhagel served as alderman of the Second ward for four years, and he was president of the German Labor Aid society at the time of his death. He had many friends, especially among the Germans, and he was a good citizen. He leaves a wife and six children, and insurance benefits amounting to $4,500 - C.M.B.A. $2,000, Maccabees $1,000, Arbeiter society $1,000, and $500 in the St. Joseph society. The funeral will be held from the Church of SS. Peter and Paul at 9 o'clock Friday morning, interment in Catholic cemetery. Additional Comments: Age: 49 Funeral: Friday 24 February 1900 Mt.
