Feb. 17, 1976 JAMES A BANHAGEL James A Banhagel, 57, of 700 East Washington, died late Monday morning at his residence following a brief illness. Born in Detroit July 26, 1918, he was the son of Robert and Cassie Holden Banhagel He was self employed with the Banhagel Construction company which at one time laid brick streets in Ionia, constructed the Ionia armory, buildings at the Ionia Free fairgrounds and the manse of SS Peter and Paul church. After the construction company was dissolved he was employed by the Ionia county road commission. He was a former member of the Ionia Elks lodge, belonged to the SS Peter and Paul church and the Ionia Knights of Columbus. Among his survivors are two sons, James of Ionia route 3, and Robert of Ortonville; three grandchildren; two brothers, Frank and Fred Banhagel of Ionia and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Frost of Ionia. Family members will be at the Myers-Roetman funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm. Private services will be conducted at the funeral home with interment at Mt.
