Thursday, July 1, 1954 Edward Banhagel, 88, former Ionia resident, died early Tuesday of a heart attack at the Green Lake Rest Haven, Oakland county. Born in Germany in 1866, he came to America when 13 years of age and spent most of his earlier years in Ionia, being employed as bricklayer in the construction of a number of public and residential buildings here. Prior to retiring to the Rest Haven, he had been a resident of Detroit 18 years. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Tressia Banhagel of Ionia; three sons Raymond E. and Lewis of Detroit, and George R. of Ionia; ; one daughter, Mrs. Wilfred Begin of Detroit; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One son, Richard, died in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning at SS. Peter and Paul church here with interment in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
