Mrs. Hazel Banker, 63, died Friday at 8 p.m. at the home of her son-in-law and 
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Heyboer, route one, Lake Odessa.  She was born 
August 22, 1895 in Baraga County, Upper Peninsula, the daughter of Burt and 
Clara (Knool) Rodgers, and moved to a farm northeast of Lake Odessa on Bippley 
road when a small child.  She graduated from Lake Odessa high school in 1919 
and taught at Bretz rural school six years before becoming a missionary and 
serving in India under the Michigan Conference of Wesleyan Methodist church.

While in India she met her husband, the Rev. Floyd E. Banker, also a 
missionary.  They were married March 18, 1924 at San Jan, India, and continued 
to serve as missionaries, returning home on furloughs.  During one furlough 
they served a pastorates at Allendale for three years, 9147 to 1950, then 
returned to India where they served until march 1959 when they returned home 
because of Mrs. Banker’s health.

Besides her husband, Rev. Floyd Banker, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. 
Alvin (Alyce) Heyboer of Lake Odessa, and Mrs. Ivan (Helen) Syswerda of 
Lansing; five grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Morley (Lottie) Hough of 
Lake Odessa, Mrs. Harry (Gladys) Sandbook of Woodland, and Mrs. York (Bernice) 
Duffy of Kalamazoo.  

The body of Mrs. Banker is at the Pickens funeral home where service will be 
conducted Monday at 1:30 p.m.  Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery.  The Rev. 
Alton Leddick will officiate.
