Bannan, of 661 North Jefferson, died at the Ionia community hospital Sunday morning, March 10, at 10:30 o’clock. She was taken to the hospital on March 2 where she submitted to a major operation. She was improving from the operation when she suddenly took a turn for the worse on Thursday and grew steadily worse. She had been in ill health for several years. She was born in Owosso on August 28, 1900, the daughter of Frank and Katherine Kalkofen Abfalter. Katherine Kalkofen came to the United States from Germany and Mr. Abfalter was originally from Westphalia. The family moved to Ionia from Owosso while Enola Frances was still a young girl and she received her education at SS. Peter and Paul academy. After her graduation she was employed at Carten’s store, the Quality store and later as secretary in W. P. Brogan’s Insurance agency. On August 28, 1924, she married William H. Bannan. She was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul church and of the Rosary society. She is a past regent of the Daughters of Isabella. Surviving are the husband, William Bannan; one son, Philip; her parents Mr. and Mrs. Abfalter; three sisters, Mrs. Reno Root of Williamston, Mrs. Raymond Lapo of Lake Odessa and Miss Mary Helen Abfalter, at home.
