The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Monday, August 4, 1930

Mrs. Mary Banning, 84, widow of the late Nelson Banning, died at her home in 
Muir Monday morning from an illness that was induced by her old age.  For 
weeks her condition has been critical and during this time her bedside was 
sanctified by the love and devotion of the family and hosts of friends.  She 
was the last of a family of 10 children.

Mrs. Banning came to Muir as a bride from Pittsburgh, Pa. and had lived in 
Muir since.  Her 64 years of residence in the community ranked her as one of 
the pioneers of the section.  She was active in promoting the social life in 
the community and continued with this activity until a few months ago when her 
ill health caused her to cease.

Her generous and hospitable nature, her efficiency in any undertaking, and her 
warm personal interest in those of the vicinity made her one of the most 
popular women in the vicinity, among both old and young.  Her home was of 
paramount interest to her and she was always prepared to greet guests, either 
expected or unexpected.

She was a member of the Muir Church of Christ and of its auxiliary, the 
ladies’ aid society, and supported both to the last cent and particle of 
strength that she was able to give.

She leaves a son, Judson Banning, of Muir; two granddaughters, Mrs. Harold 
Settle, of Muskegon, and Mrs. Laurel McKeown, of Muir, several grandchildren; 
besides many nieces and nephews, one of whom, Mrs. Bert Stone, Ionia township, 
made her home with Mrs. Banning during her girlhood and until her marriage.

Funeral services will be conducted from the home Wednesday at 2 o’clock and 
interment will be in Muir cemetery.
