February 22, 2025 BARBER Steven Michael Barber, 47, beloved father and husband passed away at home, surrounded by his family on Sunday February 16, 2025. He was born on August 16, 1977, in Ionia, the son of Patti(Clark)and Steven Barber. He was the only boy of the family with four sisters. Steve and Melissa started dating on June 5, 1995, and married on May 31, 1997. They welcomed Steven Glenn in 1997, Makenzie rose in 1999 and Carson James in 2007. Steve was a very devoted and loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He was a positive role model and passionate about instilling family values.He lived for his children and was so proud of their accomplishments. Steve graduated from Ionia High School in 1996. He started working at IMAX Correctional Facility in 2000 and held many positions during his 25 years. He ended his career as the Assistant Deputy Wardon at Central Michigan Correctional Facility in St.Louis. Steve had a strong work ethic and was devoted to the Department of Corrections. His work family was very important to him, and he made many long-lasting friends. He was a caregiver, volunteer and mentor to many. He coached t-ball, softball, and football for many years.He was a Detroit Lions snd Michigan Fan always wearing blue. He had a passion for helping others and making a difference in their lives.He welcomed his home to anyone in need.He was an inspiration to so many lives. Steve was full of life, He loved the outdoors.He was an avid hunter and fisherman.He enjoyed traveling, camping and riding motorcycle. He was a self-taught jack of all trades. He was the family's electrician, plumber, carpenter and gourmet chef. He had a passion for music and enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, especially around the campfire. He had a great sense of humor.His quick comebacks, clever jokes, and playful teasing were a trademark of his personality. He could always be counted on for lightening the mood, even during challenging times. Preceding Steve in death are his son, Steven Jr, father Steven Barber, father and Mother-in-law, James and Rose Kerr, and brothers-n-law, James,Michael and Allen Kerr. Surviving is his wife, Melissa Barber of 29 years, children, Steven,Makenzie and Carson Barber. Sisters, Corena (Rob) Dillion, Libbey Kosnik (Rich), Amy Barber, and Casey(Domingo), Juarez, In laws, Mary Owens(Michael) and Steven Kerr. Funeral service will be officiated by Pastor John Prominski at Lake Funeral Home on Saturday, February 22 at 1 pm. A Celebration of Live to follow at the Hunting and Fishing Club,2311 Bluewater Highway Bertha Brock Park fell free to wear Michigan or Detroit Lyons gear in memory of Steve. The family will receive friends and family on Friday, February 21st from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Lake Funeral Home, 3521 S.State rd. Ionia.
