Irene was born March 18, 1940 in Ionia, Michigan to the late Edward M. and June I.(Randall) Nelson. She graduated from Muir-Lyons High School Class of 1958. She was a loving wife and proud stay at home mom raising four children. She enjoyed reading and displayed her artistic abilities in Ceramic pieces she designed. Irene always looked forward to spending time with her family during special holidays celebrations and family dinners. The family also remembers the special memories fo family camping trips and traveling together, Irene especially enjoyed traveling to the Smoky Mountains Gatlinburg area. She will be remembered for her commitment and love for her family and the many lives that she touched. She is survived by her husband of over 62 years, Vern; children, Michael (Martha). Steven (Wendi), Terry and Nicki (Mark) Ferris; grandchildren, Kirk (Jodi) Ferris, Erica (Peter) Antioco, Jennifer, Madison and Logan Barclay; great grandchildren, Lucian and Otis; sisters, Linda Syrjola, Shirley Daggett and Joyce (Ivan) Hardenburg along with several nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her grandson, Brandon John Ferris and brother, Robert Nelson. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 6, 2021, 12:00p.m. at the Holihan- Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service from 11-12 pm. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in ionia. Covid protocols requiring masks, social distancing and capacity limitation will be observed. Memorial contributions may be given to the Parkinson's Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, New York 10018.
