G. Elaine Barger, aged 78 of Greenville, went home to be with her Lord early 
Sunday morning, August 31, 2003 from Heartland Health Care Center in Ionia.  
The daughter of Clarence H. and Estella (Olsen) VanVlerah, she was born on 
April 7, 1925 in Greenville.

On December 23, 1944 she married Lyle Barger, who preceded her in death on 
July 6, 1998.  A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Elaine’s greatest joy 
in life was her family.  She loved and was proud of them all.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Jackie Barger of Belding; a 
brother, Robert and Joyce VanVlerah of Greenville; six sisters, Margery 
Goodwin of Cedar Springs, Rose Burtt of Greenville, Edith Haines of Sheridan, 
Sue and Hugh Bristol of Gowen, Ann Sisson of Stanton and Carolyn Kelly of 
Greenville; a grandson, Jeffery Barger of Orleans; two granddaughters, Debra 
and Hans Meyer of Orleans and Sheila Marr of Orleans; two step-grandsons, Mark 
and Ann Adams of Lakeview and Richard Goodman of Lansing; a sister-in-law, 
Ruth and Calvin Brooks of Belding; a brother-in-law Robert and Kathryn Barger 
of Belding; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and 
cousins. 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Brown-Teman and 
Christiansen Funeral Home in Greenville, with Pastor Jim Vanderwarker of 
Evergreen Free Methodist Church officiating.  Private interment will follow at 
Palo Cemetery.

Envelopes for memorial contributions to Evergreen Free Methodist Church are 
available at the funeral home, where the family will receive relatives and 
friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m.
