Barkdull was crossing the P.M.R.R. tracks near the E.G. Garlinger poultry house on First street, he was struck by the east bound passenger train, a fast train of 13 coaches. The train ran about a mile before it could back up to the scene of the accident. It is thought Mr. Barkdull was on his way down town for the mail or groceries. He was killed instantly the body being thrown 60 feet from the crossing. He was 87 years old and had been living at the home of his son George in the village since last September. He had always been a healthy man but is said to have become somewhat deaf in late years. For probably 50 years Mr. Barkdull lived on his farm north of this village but his wife dying and he being too old to farm, he moved to the home of his son. He was a quiet Christian man and greatly respected citizen. Surviving beside his son George are two younger sons Elmer in Odessa and Omar at Traverse City, a 91-year-old brother Thomas in this village, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the Wortley & Baine chapel and burial was in Lakeside cemetery. The Rev. Frank W. Moxon, pastor of Calvary U.B. church officiated.
