Barkdull, 88, of Hollywood, Fla., and former local resident, passed away early Friday at the Doctors Hospital, Hollywood, after a long illness. He was born in Odessa township, the son of Hiram and Margaret (Valentine) Barkdull and had been a lifelong resident of the area until not able to return home last April because of his health. He had spent the winters in Florida after his retirement. He married Laura Robbins in November, 1901, and she passed away November 15, 1955. George was employed by the Kart flour and feed mill for many years and later owned and operated a Standard Oil service station until retiring. He had also been employed by the Lake Odessa Canning Company for several years. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Nelson (Bernice) Everett of Detroit and Hollywood Fla.; a son, Owen (Pete), also of Hollywood; three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a brother, Elmer, of Fowlerville. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 at the Pickens Funeral Chapel. Rev. Marvin Zimmerman officiated, with burial in Lakeside cemetery.
