Barker died at the home of his son, Hiram Barker, in Grand Rapids, Thursday, Nov 2nd, aged 78 years. The deceased was born in Sandoff, Grafton Co., New Hampshire, and in 1845 came to Michigan with his father, Rev. Isaac Barker, who settled in Courtland, Kent County. Later he moved to Rockford, then known as Laphamville, where his first wife died. About 18 years ago he came to Belding where he has since resided with the exception of two or three years. His health has not been good for some time and on hearing of his brother’s sickness in Grand Rapids, he went there to see him at the Soldiers Home and was taken sick that night at the home of his son where he died about a week later after severe suffering. His remains were taken to Rockford and laid to rest by the side of the wife of his young manhood who died in 1865. The funeral was held in the M. E. church there, Rev. J.W. Sheehan, officiating. Mr. Barker was an ardent member of the M.E. church and an excellent citizen. He leaves besides a devoted wife, two sons and two daughters. Mrs. Barker desires to thank the many friends here, the order of Lady Foresters and the friends in Rockford for the many kindnesses they showed in her hour of great bereavement.
