Oct. 20, 2012 Jerome Joseph Barker of Pewamo, a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Oct. 18, 2012m at the age of 95. He was born on August 13, 1917 in Westphalia, the son of Mary (Fernholz) and Louis Barker. Jerome graduated from Pewamo High School in 1935, was a loyal and faithful employee of Davarn Equipment Sales for 45 years. He was a Pewamo and Lyons Township fireman for 38 years and was Fire Chief for 35 years. He served as Clerk for the Village of Pewamo for 41 years. Jerome married Helen Bengel on Aug. 27, 1941, and they were married 56 years, before she preceded him in death on Feb, 1, 1997. Also preceding him in death were his daughter, Janet Cook in 2009; son-in-law, Mike Cook in 1999; brothers, Ralph (Dorothy) Florian (Ange), Bob, and Elmer Barker; and sisters-in-law, Jean Bengel, Marie Bengel and Marie Manning. Surviving are his three sons, Jim Barker of Ann Arbor, Bill (Doris) Barker of Pewamo, and Tom (Rita) Barker of DeWitt; two daughters, Judy (Dave) Roach, and Cindy (Mark) Wohlfert, both of Westphalia; 20 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sister, Alberta (Dick) Thelen of Lansing; brother, Marvin (Sandy) Barker of Ionia; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Barker of Pewamo, and Lorraine Barker of Lansing; and brothers-in-law, Julius Bengel, and Bernard Bengel, both of Westphalia. The family would like to thank Green Acres of Ionia, and the Laurels of Fulton for their wonderful care during his last days, and throughout the past seven years. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, with Rev. Charlon O. Mason presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Pewamo. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday. Complete arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland.
