His parents moved to Belding, Mich., when he was a child of four years. Here he led a joyous, happy life till the beginning of his illness Friday, May 5th, when he was stricken with pneumonia and died Saturday, May 13, 1899. Ernie was a general favorite of his school-mates, play-fellows and friends; his sunny, happy disposition endeared him to all who knew him, and who now so sincerely lament his early death. A bright light has gone out from among them and his young life has ended – here. Ernie was a good boy, a delightful son and a fond brother and friend. How truly he was appreciated was touchingly shown by the weeping children and young people who come to take a last tearful look and sad adieu of the sweet face of Ernie as he lay in his snowy casket nestling ‘mid the beautiful flowers, fond tokens of their love and regard. Farewell Ernie dear, may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest, and so make life, death and that fast for ever one grand sweet song. — A Friend.
