Barkus, 56, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at his home at 350 North street. He was born April 7, 1898, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of William and Katie McCarthy Barkus. He was a former employee of the Ionia Manufacturing Company and had been recently employed as salesman for Berger Motor Sales. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul church also a member of the Elks and Moose lodges. He served four years in World War I. Surviving are his wife, Carol, two sons, William and Thomas, at home; three daughters, Carol J., at home, Mrs. Jack Schuerman and Mrs. Thomas Schuetz of Newport, Ky.; one grandson; one brother, Raymond Barkus of Lyons. Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock at Myers funeral home. Requiem high mass will be sung Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock at SS. Peter and Paul church. Interment will be at Mt.
