Ionia Sentinel, 14 Oct 1963

Service was held at Metcalf chapel in Grand Rapids Monday afternoon for Mrs.
Seymour J. Barkwell, former Vina Bennett of Ionia, who died Friday morning at
her home, 1527 Mackinaw road SE, at the age of 84 years.  She had been ill three
months.

Mrs. Barkwell was born in Ionia and moved to Grand Rapids in 1913.  She had been
active for many years with the YWCA, M. J. Clark Memorial Home, hospitals, and
other organizations.  She was a member of the official board of First Methodist
church almost 50 years and served as president of the Women’s Association of the
church.  She was also active in various guilds and clubs and was a life member
of the Women’s City club.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne M. and John O., both of Grand Rapids and 11
grandchildren. Her husband, one of the city’s first automobile dealers, died in
1945.

Entombment was at Graceland Mausoleum.
