Helen L. Barna, 88, of Ionia, passed away Monday November 30, 1998 in Grand 
Rapids.  She was born June 14, 1910 in Detroit, the daughter of Joseph and 
Rose (Kikel) Ruppe.  She went on to marry John Barna November 29, 1938.  She 
was a member of SS Peter and Paul Church.  She was a seamstress for many years 
for Clothing Care.  She was an avid gardener.

She is survived by her husband John Barna of Ionia; sons, James Barna of Ohio, 
Mark Barna of Ionia, Joseph and Vicky Barna of Ionia; daughter, Mary Ann and 
Robert Adair of Detroit; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also 
survive.  She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sister; two sons, 
Peter and John Jr.; two daughters, Catherine and Cecilia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, 10 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul 
Church with the Rev. Melvin Fox officiating.  Interment will follow in Mt. 
Olivet Cemetery.  Visitation is today 2 to 4 p.m. and Wednesday 2 to 4 p.m. 
and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.  A Rosary will be 
recited on Thursday 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
