Barnard was born in the state of New York April 17th, 1830. She spent her girlhood life in that state removing to Ohio about 1854. In 1857 she came to Lyons, Mich., remaining here a citizen of this village until August 27th, 1918, at which time she went with her sister, Mrs. Verona Coon, to Kansas City, Mo., to make her home with her niece, Mrs. Corinne Abney, where she died October 22nd, at the age of ninety years, six months and five days. She was a woman of wonderful cheerfulness and optimism under all the changing circumstances of life. A truly wonderful woman in her never failing spirit of good cheer. In October of 1865 she was united in marriage to Winfield S. Barnard. She survived her husband by about thirty years. The Baptist church was the church of her choice and it was her wish that she be buried from that church which she habitually attended with her husband until physically disabled. She loved her home and Lyons friends, and regretted the necessity of going to another home to pass the last few years of her life, but circumstances seemed to necessitate such change. She died of erysipelas which circumstances prevented her friends from viewing the remains. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the Baptist church, Rev. V.C. Webb officiating. Music was furnished by Frank Strong with Mrs. E.M. Vance at the organ. Interment in the Lyons cemetery.
