Barnard, 83, of 707 Bridge, Portland, died at St. Lawrence hospital in Lansing, Monday, following a short illness. She was born June 9, 1886 in Pewamo and was married to Ray Barnard on her birthday 60 years ago in 1909. A member of Portland United Methodist church, she also belonged to its WSCS and was a Sunday school teacher over 50 years. Surviving besides her husband, Ray, are three sons, Robert of Grand Rapids, Kenneth of Wheaton, Ill., and Dale of Philadelphia, Pa.; four daughters, Mrs. Lucy Galloway of Ionia, Mrs. Rachael Zimmer of Portland, Mrs. Ruth Ann Summers of Sunfield, Mrs. Lola Belle Oliphant of Florida; 26 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; a brother Albert Robertson of Lansing; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Lockwood of Ionia, Mrs. Fannie Morton of Grand Ledge and Grace Robertson of Mulliken. Mrs. Barnard will be at Neller funeral home in Portland until 9:30 a.m. Thursday when she will be taken to Portland United Methodist church where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Rev. Donald Cozadd and also Mrs. Barnard’s grandson, Rev. Clinton Galloway of Grand rapids will officiate. Interment will be at Portland cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Portland United Methodist church. Bearers were Robert Haan, Gordon Galloway, Keith Zimmer, Thomas Steven and Richard Summers.
