The Portland Observer, Thursday, September 18, 1952

Joseph A. Barnes, 83, of Portland, passed away Tuesday morning at the Eckert 
convalescent home in Ionia.  Funeral services are being held this (Thurs.) 
morning at 10:00 at St. Patrick’s church, Rev. Fr. Louis Flohe officiating.  
Burial will be in Danby cemetery.

Surviving are sisters, Mrs. Anna Snyder, of Carson City, Mrs. Lottie McLaren, 
of Mulliken; brothers, Vern Barnes, of Ionia, Ernest Barnes, of Eagle, and 
Leroy Barnes, of Grand Ledge; half-sisters, Mrs. Jean Stevenson, St. Thomas, 
Canada, and Mrs. Gladys Dyke, of Ionia.

The rosary was recited at Neller Funeral Home Wednesday evening.  The deceased 
was born on April 22, 1873.
