Graveside service for John Austin Barnes, former Ionia resident to died November
15 in Detroit, was conducted Wednesday afternoon at Highland Park cemetery,
Ionia.  Mr. Barnes was born in Ionia, the son of Raymond and Jessie Yates
Barnes.  His father was in business with Smith-Barnes and was associated with
the opera house.  Mr. Barnes was the grandson of Dr. H.B. Barnes and Mrs. Barnes
who was the daughter of Dr. W.B. Lincoln, first physician and teacher in Ionia.

Mr. Barnes was a graduate of Houghton College of Mines and worked in the Detroit
area for many years.  At the time of his death he was a construction engineer.

He is survived by his wife, Helene; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Davis of Rochester and
a son, William Barnes of Denver, Colo.
