She was born March 9, 1940, in Detroit, Mich. Bette and her family moved to the Ionia County area when she was 2 years old. Bette loved living in the small town of Lyons and all of the friendly people, who became dear friends. Bette loved spending time with her family. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She would always greet us with a BIG hug and smile. She is survived by three daughters: Debra (Bruce) Hazel of Ozona, Texas, Marcia (Bruce) Hersch of Ionia, and Jennifer Barnes (Justin Proctor) of Lyons; grandsons: Terren (Jenna) Schafer, Aaron Rogers and Ashton Firovich; granddaughters: Tiffany (Jeremy) Hoppes, Heather Hersch, Jordan Hersch, Emily Rogers and Zoey Firovich; great grandsons Zeke Zander, Bryce Hoppes and Alex Dusette; great granddaughters, MacKenzie Zander and Payton Hoppes; sister, Lisa Limon; brothers: Kenneth Maddox, Kevin (Amy) Maddox and Jim (Carol) Maddox; brother-in law Richard Barnes of Greenville; sister-in-laws Caroline (Doug) Laney, and June Ferris; and many nieces and nephews; and her loyal companion Snoopy 2. She was preceded in death by her husband George, her mother Alberta Maddox, and her father George Maddox. Bette retired from Chrysler in 1979 and served as the Lyons Village Clerk for nearly 20 years. She also worked at the Lyons Village Store and Meijer throughout the years. Bette loved springtime for many reasons; all of the beautiful flowers blooming, planting her garden, sunny days, mushroom hunting and of course the golf cart would once again be ready to roll. She will be missed dearly by her family. Bette was a beautiful and caring person who always put other people's feelings ahead of her own. This generosity gave her the opportunity to touch many people's lives and hearts. The family would like to invite those people that had the pleasure of knowing her to come share their stories from 2-4 p.m. Friday, April 25 at the Lyons VFW, 223 E Bridge St. in Lyons, Mich.
