Barnes died at his home on Wall Street, Prison suburb, on Sunday afternoon. His age was 72 and he is survived by his wife and three daughters: Mrs. Fred A. Jones and Mrs. Robt. Williams of this city, and Miss Susie, living at home. For many years Mr. Barnes was a guard at the Reformatory, being first appointed under Warden Watkins in February, 1885, and serving until 1891; reappointed in May 1896, and resigning in Nov., 1904, growing infirmity unfitting him for further duty. He served during the civil war in the 6th Michigan cavalry, and had an honorable record as a brave and faithful soldier. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. K. Spencer, D. D., at the family residence, on Tuesday at 2 pm. Interment, Highland Park.
