NELLIE R. BARNES
IONIA-Nellie R. Barnes, 85, of 507 State St. Ionia, died Thursday at Ionia County
Memorial 
Hospital.

She was born March 22, 1896, in Ionia

She graduated with the class of 1915 at Ionia high School. She was a bookkeeper for
Stevenson's Department Store, for actress Mary Pickford during World War I, and for
her husband and son-in-law at Barnes and Kuieck. She also worked for the U.S. State 
Department in Washington D.C. at one point.

She was married to Fred C. Barnes Dec. 17,1924 in Ionia. They made their home here
since.

The couple celebrated their golden anniversary in 1974.

He preceded her in death Feb. 2, 1980

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Ionia Eastern Star, the
church's afternoon circle, the American Legion Auxillary. WW I barracks and the Mothers Study
Club.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Gwen) Kuieck, of Ionia, five grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Leddick Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl 
Hausermann officiating.

Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church organ fund.
