Fr. John O. Carlton, pastor of St. John's Episcopal church. Private funeral services were held in Detroit Friday morning. Mrs. Jessie Yates Barnes, 72, of Rochester died Wednesday, May 30, at Ford hospital in Detroit where she had been a medical patient for the past five days. She was born June 23, 1878, in Kent, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Col. and Mrs. John B. Yates and Ellen Bell Yates, formerly of Ionia. Her father was a colonel with the first Michigan engineers and a railroad builder and much of her childhood was spent in Ionia as well as in Schenectady, N.Y. She was educated in the East. She married Raymond Lincoln Barnes, son of Dr. and Mrs. H.B. Barnes of Ionia. She lived in Ionia for about 10 years after their marriage and then moved to Detroit and Birmingham where they spent most of their married life. Barnes died about 18 years ago. Mrs. Barnes was a member of St. James Episcopal church in Birmingham. Surviving are a son, John Austin Barnes, of Rochester; two grandchildren, William L. Barnes of Albuquerque, N.M. and Mary B. Davis of Rochester, two great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Hall H. Smith and Mrs. Elizabeth Yates of Detroit.
