Gary James Barnes, 63, of Portland and Dickerson Lake, passed away at home
surrounded by his family.  He was born on Nov. 29, 1944 in Portland the son of
Richard and Lucille (Gilbert) Barnes.  

On Aug. 2, 1969 he married Marcia Fletcher.  He worked at Diamond REO and is
retired from General Motors.  Gary enjoyed collecting various items and going to
garage sales and often times finding hard to find items for his family.  He
always had an interest in the latest electronic technology.  He enjoyed going to
classic car shows, taking his 1928 REO with his wife Marcia.  Gary loved being
at his cottage on Dickerson Lake and he also loved having his family around,
especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Joan Green.  

Surviving are his wife, Marcia; children Gregory (Kelly) Barnes of Portland and
Sheri (Russell) Smith of Lyons; grandchildren Tyler, Emily, Rikki and Dominic;
brother Richard (Kay) Barnes of Greenville; sister Carol (Corky) Church of Grand
Ledge.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dr. Marilyn V. Danileson on Jan. 14 at
the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland.  Interment
followed at Portland Cemetery.  Military Honors were provided by the V.F.W. Post
#4090.  Arrangements were entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home,
Portland.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ionia Area
Hospice in memory of Gary.
