Services Held for Benjamin Barnum

Benjamin T. Barnum, 82, former local resident, passed away last Thursday 
afternoon at the Ionia County Memorial  Hospital, where he was a patient for one 
day. He had been a patient at the Ionia Manor following the death of his wife 
Mabel in April 1969.

Mr. Barnum was born in Sunfield Township, Nov. 17, 1887, and was a lifelong 
resident of the Sunfield and Lake Odessa area and had resided here about 14 
years.

A co-owner of a grocery and meat business and a hardware store, he was later 
employed by a local meat market before his retirement. 

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Velva Peabody and Mrs. Keith (Ilah) Hough 
both of Sunfield, and Mrs. Arthur (Veda) Drake of Grand Ledge; six 
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; a step-
daughter, Mrs. Frances Butler of Lansing and several step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the Pickens Funeral 
Chapel. Rev. Carl Olsen officiated with burial in Sunfield Cemetery.
