She was born March 22, 1950, in Beloit, Wis., the daughter of John and Helen Bassett Smith. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with honors in 1972. Barbara was a member of Church of the Rock, Greenville. She loved her family, her church, her church family and enjoyed the sense of community in belonging to the Church of the Rock. She had a strong faith and truly loved serving her Lord and Jesus Christ. Barbara was a king and loving person, never speaking ill of anyone. Her death is a part of her faith journey. Barbara worked as a cashier for Meijer in Greenville. She loved her work and enjoyed her fellow co-workers and the many customers she served. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her daughter on son-in-law, Susan and Paul Tater of Whitehall; her first granddaughter, due in August; her parents, John and Helen Smith of Belding; her brothers and sisters, Daniel and Jan Smith of Belvidere, Ill., Patricia and Steve Brown of Belding, Kathy Hoekman of Ionia, Jeanne Daskam of Beloit, Wis., Mary Trotman, Anne and George Rhodes, all of Belding; and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral and committal services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with her pastor, Edward W. Raby Sr., officiating. Interment is in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. A luncheon will follow the funeral service at the American Legion, Belding. The family will greet relatives and friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
