She has been a resident of Ionia for the past 30 years. Mrs. Barret was born in Steuben county New York, and her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Tripp. When sixteen years of age she married Calvin Carpenter, who was a civil war veteran, and died in the soldiers’ home in Grand Rapids in 1904. Later she came to Ionia, and married Charles Barret. Mr. Barret died in 1929. She is survived by five sisters, Mrs. Ella Burlingame, of Lansing; Mrs. Charles Snyder, of Bear Lake; Mrs. Louis Hale, of Thompsonville; Mrs. George Heffinger and Mrs. George Clement, of Traverse City; two brothers, Alfred Tripp, of Jackson, and Welford Tripp, of Mt. Morris; three daughters, Mrs. Bessie Dent, of Ann Arbor; Mrs. George Lockridge, of Grand Rapids; Mrs. Marie Ferguson, of Chicago; three sons, Walter Carpenter, of East Leroy; Rowley Carpenter, of Monroe, and William Carpenter, of Kalamazoo. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
