He had been fishing and started to obey the bridge tender’s warning when his clothing caught on a timber in such a manner that he could not extricate himself, the swinging bridge crushing the life from his body. The Neller ambulance went to Charlevoix and brought the body to Portland. Funeral services were held at the Neller chapel Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Neller officiating. Burial was made in St. Johns cemetery. Mr. Barrus was a former Portland resident, leaving this vicinity several years ago for Charlevoix. Clarence and Herbert DeLaVergne, of Portland, are nephews.
