She was born October 9, 1896, in Lake Odessa, the daughter of Ray and Lelah McDiarmid Van Houten and was a life-long resident of the area. She graduated from Lake Odessa high school in 1915 and served as secretary-treasurer of the class reunion since 1940. Married on March 16, 1922 , to George Homer Bartlett, he preceded her in death August 7, 1977. Mrs. Bartlett was a 50 year member of Lakeside Grange, Ionia County Pomona Grange, Lakewood United Methodist church, United Methodist Women and the 3 x 4 club. Surviving are three sons, Roger of Minneapolis, Gerald of Whitehall, and Dale of East Lansing; one daughter, Mrs. George (Virginia) Schreckengost, of Youngstown, Ohio. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Wlbert Peppel of East Lansing, a sister, Mrs. Gaylia Rathbun, and a step-brother, Bernard Dalley , both of Lake Odessa. Other survivors; a step-sister, Mrs. Todd (Gladys) Murphy of Lansing; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Maude Kinney of Eaton Rapids and Mrs. Marjorie Bartlett of Detroit; twenty grand children and one great grand daughter, a niece and a nephew. Three children preceded her in death, Martin Earl, Marjorie Elaine in infancy, and Lyle in 1970. Services will be Wednesday at 2 pm from Lakewood United Methodist church, Rev. Charles Dunbar and Rev. George Schreckengost officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery. The family will be at Pickens-Kooops funeral chapel Tuesday from 7-9 pm.
