Oct. 7, 1965 THREE LAKE ODESSA RESIDENTS KILLED MONDAY IN ONE CAR CRASH ON M-66 Richard R. Bartlett, 65, and his wife Bessie, 52, of 1608 4th Avenue and Mrs. Vernon W. (Marian) Plants, 54, of 1015 4th Avenue, were fatally injured in a one car accident on M-66 near the Harwood farms, Monday afternoon. Marian Falk, a native of DeKalb, Ill, married Mr. Plants at Grand Rapids, August 16, 1930, and lived at Lansing before coming to Lake Odessa, nine years ago, when they purchased the Friendly Tavern. She was a member of the Lake Odessa Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and Women of the Moose of Ionia. Surviving are her husband; two sons Robert V., stationed with the Air force at Dover, Delaware and Allan at home, one granddaughter; her mother Mrs. John Fry of Hastings; a half sister Janet and two half brothers, Charles and Paul Falk of Marne. Funeral services are being held Thursday (today) at 2 PM with burial in Lakeside cemetery. Rev. Luther Brokaw officiating. Richard Bartlett was born at Luther and had been a resident here for 45 years. He was a member of the Lake Odessa Masonic lodge and charter member of the Lakeside Grange. Surviving are a son Orvin R., four grandsons; two brothers, Chester of Grand Rapids and Norman, also a sister. Mrs.Florence Bennett, both of Toledo, Ohio. Mrs. Bartlett, the former Bessie Hyde had resided here for 21 years and was a member of the Lake Odessa chapter order of the Eastern Star. Her first husband Delbert Meyers passed away August 13, 1948 and she married Mr. Bartlett, June 25, 1953. Surviving are three daughters Mrs.Donal (Joyce) Irwin of Lansing Mrs. Donald (Darlene) Crosby of Ionia and Mrs.Donald (Barbara) Brinningstaull of Middleville; a son Charles Meyers of Lansing; 15 grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Sylvia Dershem of Leslie. Double funeral services are being held Thursday (today) at 10 AM for Mr. and Mrs.Bartlett at the Pickens funeral Chapel with burial in lakeside cemetery. Rev. Luther Brokaw officiating. The accident happened about 2:10 PM as Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett and Mrs. Plants were south bound on M-66 and Mrs. Plants driving the auto. According to State Police who investigated, the car crossed the center line and left the highway on the east side of the road before crashing head on into a tree. There were no skid marks at the scene of the accident.
