He was born in Caffey, Michigan February 19, 1901, the son of George and Emma (Sharp) Bartlett and was a 1916 graduate of the Lake Odessa high school. He farmed in the local area until 1942 then owned and operated service stations from 1942 until 1977. He was in a long time partnership with Dean Cunningham and was still in the business at the time of his death. He married Opal VanHouten of Lake Odessa March 16, 1922 and they moved from the farm n Lake Odessa in 1944. Mr. Bartlett was an active member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church; was a 50 year member of the Lakeside Grange and had served as Pomana Grange Master; a member of the Men's Brotherhood and Choir of the church and had been a member of the Lake Odessa Lions Club. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Rodger of Minneapolis, Minn., Gerald of Whitehall and Dale of East Lansing; a daughter, Mrs. George (Virginia) Schreckengost of Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter in law, Mrs. Albert (Louise) Peppel of E. Lansing; 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild; a sister, Mrs Maude Kinney of Battle Creek; sisters in law, Mrs. Marjorie Bartlett of Detroit and Mrs Gaylia Rathbun of Lake Odessa; and dear friends Dean and Viola Cunningham of Lake Odessa. Three children preceded him in death; Lyle in 1970 and twins in infancy. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lakewood United Methodist Church on M-50. Rev. Charles Dunbar officiated with burial in Lakeside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be left at the Pickens-Koops Funeral Chapel who were in charge of arrangements.
