He lived in Hersey until he was 17 and from that time on has lived almost continuously in Ionia. He served in the Red Arrow division of the A.E.F. in World War I for four years in France and Germany. On his return to civilian life he lived a short time in Lansing. He had been custodian of the Ionia county courthouse since June 1, 1949. He was married April 6, 1946 to Leona Johnston at the Church of Christ Parsonage in Ionia. He is survived by his wife; four stepchildren, Gerald Johnston, Washington, D.C., Gordon, Natalie and Ronald Johnston, all at home; one grandchild; his step-mother, Mrs. Emma Bartlett of Grand Rapids; three brothers, Deputy Richard Bartlett of Lake Odessa and Chester A. of Grand Rapids and Norman of Toledo, Ohio, and one sister, Mrs. Flossie Bennett of Toledo, O. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 from the Stone-Kauffman funeral home with Dr. Paul L. Stewart officiating. Interment will be in Balcom cemetery.
