The Ionia County News, Thursday, August 14, 1958
Miss Lela Barton, 70, telephone operator in Portland for many years before her 
retirement, died Wednesday afternoon, August 6, in Ionia Memorial hospital.  
Miss Baron, a resident of Portland for the last 60 years was a patient at the 
hospital one day.  She had bane in ill health about three months.  Miss Baron 
was a member of the Portland Rebekah lodge for 50 years.  She also belonged to 
the Portland Baptist church, American Legion auxiliary, and the Gleaners. 

She is survived by a brother, John Barton, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Saturday at the Neller Funeral home with interment in 
Portland cemetery.
